Case binding

Our case-bound books are sewn in sections which allow the pages to lay flat when open.

They are composed of a text-block (pages sewn together) and a hard cover.

The text block is attached to the case (also called hard cover) using endpapers.

When there aren't many pages in a book - or for aesthetic preferences- we can create a case with a 'soft spine'. The case wraps around the thin sections in a rounded shape with a soft, flexible spine.

As mentioned above our case-bound books are sewn in sections which allow the pages to lay flat when open. The sheets of paper are folded in half to become folios and gathered in sections for sewing. Each section typically contains 12 or 16 pages. Here the spine of the text block is kept square and the case is made with a flat spine piece.

In this instance the pages are sewn onto tapes and the text block is rounded. Both text-block and case have a rounded spine shape.
